2022 Backlit

The 2022 Backlit is all dark fruit, herbs, and intrigue. A blend of 44% Syrah, 22% Petite Sirah, 17% Carignan, 11% Mourvèdre, and 6% Grenache, this vintage was aged 22 months in 33% new French barriques. The nose conjures a compelling watercolor of perfume, chaparral, umami, and spice, while the palate gives grilled shiitake, seared stone fruit, fennel, and cola. Much like its counterpart, this wine is delicious now and will only improve with some time in the cellar. Drink 2025–2035

“The 2022 Backlit is youthfully coiled, slowly evolving with an array of dried violets, lavender, citrus zest and crushed blackberries. This supremely elegant red from Adelaida District floods the palate with silken textures. Ripe red and blue fruits, underscored by tactile mineral tones, add a pleasant grippiness toward the close. This tapers off spicy, leaving the mouth watering for more as blue and purple-toned inner florals resonate throughout. Dramatic length. The Backlit is a blend of 44% Syrah, 22% Petite Sirah, 17% Carignan, 11% Mourvèdre and 6% Grenache.”

“Made with 44% Syrah, 22% Petite Sirah, 17% Carignan, 11% Mourvèdre and 6% Grenache, the 2022 Backlit expresses a more sturdy side of the Maha estate. The nose is driven by dark fruit compote and dark spice aromas while remaining impressively high-toned and accented with pleasing bramble and underbrush notes. The palate is assertive and full-bodied before pulling back and transitioning to a robust, expansive and long finish with subtle yet persistent tannins. Despite the power within, this remains pleasantly balanced and nuanced throughout.”

“Darker, juicier black fruits, pen ink, pepper, and graphite emerge from the 2022 Backlit, with subtle spicy and leather nuances in the background. A blend of 44% Syrah, 22% Petite Sirah, 17% Carignan, 11% Mourvèdre, and 6% Grenache, aged 22 months in 33% new French barriques, it’s plush and soft on the palate, with medium to full-bodied richness, plenty of mid-palate depth, and an excellent finish. Drink 2025-2033.”
