2022 Trovador

50% Carignan, 50% Syrah. This will be the fourth bottling of Trovador. The first vintage was in 2009, followed by 2010, with the most recent being 2017. Trovador is a tip of the hat to the great wines of the Roussillon, in French Catalonia, where Carignan is king and has wonderful friends like Syrah, Grenache and Cinsault to play with. It is a region that was long forgotten until the early 2000’s. Vignerons visiting from around the world discovered its wild landscapes and old vines yearning to be tended to, as they were decades prior.  Shimmering crimson draws you in to a plethora of aromatics. Cardamon, baseball card gum talc, berry pie and chaparral transition to a generous yet taut palate bursting with Bing cherry, chocolate, orange bitters, molasses, and tapenade. "Based on equal parts Syrah and Carignan, the 2022 Trovador is deeper ruby-hued with a great nose of ripe black cherries, new leather, ground pepper, and hints of iron. This carries to a medium to full-bodied red that has a focused, elegant mouthfeel, firm yet polished tannins, and a great finish. It's a brilliant Syrah that needs 2-4 years of bottle age and will drink well over the following decade."
