2021 This Way That Way
VINEYARDS: MAHA Estate and James Berry Vineyard
50% Mourvèdre, 50% Grenache. Like all great partners, Grenache and Mourvèdre compliment one another in every way, much like Calvin and Hobbs, Han and Chewie, and Venus and Serena. Its vermilion color lures you in for an explosion of aromas that jump starts the olfactory system with notes of Tunisian spices, fresh flowers, clementines, hashish and musk. The palate is textural and concentrated offering a finish that goes on for days. A bit of short term cellaring will the play here. If you have to be like Veruca Salt, double decant it, sit back and enjoy the show.
"Looking at the wines from bottle, the 2021 This Way That Way is equal parts Grenache and Mourvèdre that spent 15 months in barrel. There are a scant 200 cases made, but it's worth tracking down. Black cherries, mulberries, pepper, leather, incense, and herbal notes flow to a medium to full-bodied red with ripe yet building tannins, beautiful overall balance, and a great finish. Give it a year or two." 95 pts Jeb Dunnuck
